BE Members impress in London

BE members dominated the top twenty Olympic spots in Greenwich over the weekend.

Whilst Britain took the team silver in Greenwich, there was a total of ten BE Members on the Team medal podium who are all based in what is arguably the home of Eventing; Great Britain. The New Zealand bronze medal winning team was entirely made-up of British-based riders: Mark Todd (56, Thatcham, Berkshire), Andrew Nicholson (51, based in Marlborough, Wiltshire), Caroline Powell (39, Kelso from the Scottish borders), Jonathan ‘Jock’ Paget (28, based in Dunsfold, Surrey) and Jonelle Richards (31, Marlborough, Wiltshire)

The top twenty individual placings after the second round of show jumping were also dominated by competitors from around the UK including the British team members:

4th – NZ Andrew Nicholson riding Nereo

5th -  GB Mary King  (51, from Salcombe Regis, Devon) riding Imperial Cavalier

6th – GB Tina Cook (41,  from Worthing, West Sussex) riding Miners Frolic

8th – GB Zara Phillips (31 from Stroud, Gloucestershire) riding High Kingdom

10th – NZ Jonathan Paget riding Clifton Promise

11th – ITA Vittoria Panizzon (28, based Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire) riding Borough Pennyz

12th – NZ Mark Todd riding Campino

13th – AUS Andrew Hoy (53, based near Badbury, Wiltshire) riding Rutherglen

16th – AUS Christopher Burton (56, based near Thatcham, Berkshire) riding HP Leilani

20th – SWE Ludwig Svennerstal (21, based near Harrogate, North Yorkshire)

British Eventing Chief Executive Mike Etherington-Smith commented: “We are of course extremely proud of the British team silver title but also incredibly pleased to acknowledge the success of so many of our international Members in what is Britain’s home Olympics.”
