British Eventing today announced the long list of horse and rider combinations for the Racesafe sponsored FEI Junior Europeans; the annual European Championship for eventers aged between fourteen and eighteen years old.
The competition will be held at Strzegom (POL) from 6-9 September 2012; the short list of the final squad of six and two reserves will be named after the final trial at Aston-Le-Walls on Thursday 9th August.
The event runs at CCI1* level and will see future stars of the British Eventing stage battle it out to defend their 2011 array of medals including team and individual gold, plus individual bronze.
Ginnie Keen, Chairman of Junior selectors commented on the long listed combinations: “We have a lovely mix of new faces along with several who are already well known to us. Both Alfie Bradstock and Sophie How were on the gold medal winning British Pony team in 2010 whilst Will Furlong was the ON U-18 National Champion at Weston Park last autumn. Emily King was a Junior debutant in 2011 and put in a fantastic first Championship performance last year which I am sure she will be keen to improve on.
“Isabella Innes Ker leapt in to the limelight over the weekend at Glanusk with two impressive performances along with many other new faces who have been successfully contesting the regional U-18 classes despite of the disrupted season.”
The British Junior Selection committee reserves the right to add or amend this list at any time. At present, the long list comprises (in alphabetical order):
